Dear Black River Grill:
My darling, where have you been all my life? Ever since the day we first met last spring, you have been on my mind. You are a rose among thorns, a diamond in the rough and well, just perfect. I can’t imagine life without you. Our love affair has been short, but so deep. I hope to see you many, many times in the future so that we may continue this amazing journey. ..
Oh, excuse me. I was daydreaming. What the heck was that, you’re wondering? Well, it’s just me expressing my love of a recent discovery in Myrtle Beach, Black River Grill. After I prematurely quit a golf game at Wicked Stick Golf Course (don’t ask!) and was waiting on my husband to finish the last two holes on a balmy spring evening, I was strolling around the clubhouse when I picked up a Xerox copy of a menu for Black River Grill. The pro shop employee casually told me the place was pretty good and that his friend worked there. It was just across the road, there was a coupon for a free appetizer and I was starving. So why not? We love to try new places.

Since I’ve never met any of The Five and I’ve joined their blog as a Forker, Susan and I agreed it was time we met in person. And what better way to do so than over a meal! So I met Susan at Wellington’s Café for lunch on Tuesday last week.
Wellington’s offers a daily special that is the same each week. Tuesday’s special is fried chicken, mashed potatoes and creamed corn. I heard some others in the place mention that it was homemade creamed corn. I once had a bad experience with creamed corn so it kind of turns my stomach just thinking about it. Plus, I wasn’t feeling like having a huge meal for lunch. But an hour later, I’m feeling like I should have.

Susan says… Ron Says…
(Part of my reports from the Charleston SC / Folly Beach area)
Aptly named, this joint is a bar located near the surf just off Center Street in Folly Beach. The menu offers about a half dozen items so don’t expect great variety. The family unit wanted burgers. We heard this was the place in Folly to obtain such a meal and it was within walking distance to our condo. I gave into the suggestion, thinking this would be a budget-conscious meal, thus freeing up some dollars for our splurge later in the week at Hall’s Chophouse. …. Ok first “we heard” is not really true, because I do not do research on places prior to when I go on vacation. That is Susan’s job, well actually it’s not even her job, it’s her HOBBY, no not hobby, but more like her disorder as in OCD. This is what she found. Personally I think she did pretty good as I liked it. Although, “budget conscious” wasn’t really in my mind I just figured I’m on vacation and I’m going to get jacked up wherever I go, why should the surf bar be any different.

I have heard from many people about the greatness of FatBobs. I’ve always avoided it because 1. I’ve heard that it is “crazy” busy and 2. Motorcycles are just not how I roll and I figured I would stick out like a sore thumb. But I was assured that this would not be a Dome experience and was on my way to try it.
When we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised. It was much different than I expected. We walked through a very clean showroom to get to the eating area. The eating area was much smaller than I expected. There were only 3 or 4 booths, a few tables and some bar seating. But luckily we were there early and grabbed a table. (FYI- After being there for about 5 minutes, all the tables were full- but there was still some bar seating.) Continue reading

After putting up with Susan and her twenty year High School Reunion- serious folks, that’s a whole ‘nother post in and of itself – we had to venture back to Buckville to grab the kids.
Hanging out at Stonewall listening to far too many stories of yesteryear wondering why I’m here and for how long, we stayed far too long. Thus by the time we arrived to get the kids it was close to lunch and because we had two hours back to the Fork You Mansion, well let’s feed the beast now and be done with it.
Stopping to fill up with overpriced petrol at Sheetz, I figure what better place to kill two birds with one stone. Grub and Gas and Go.
